Long Beach USD Wilson High School Auditorium Modernization
Long Beach, CALIFORNIA
The project consists of a one- and two-story auditorium building originally constructed in 1925. The auditorium was reconstructed and seismically strengthened in 1937 after sustaining damage in the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. Navigating irregular features, including large roof steps, a balcony, fly loft, and clock tower, MHP modernized the auditorium interior and performed significant seismic strengthening. With design complexities including historic elements, previous seismic strengthening components, and liquefaction hazards through compaction grouting, MHP assisted the District in obtaining funding through the Seismic Mitigation Program (SHP).
