9665 Wilshire Blvd Seismic Strengthening
Beverly Hills, CALIFORNIA
9665 Wilshire is a 10-story non-ductile concrete (NDC) office building, constructed in 1971 over four levels of subterranean parking. The office building encloses approximately 171,000 square feet and is located in Beverly Hills, CA.
MHP completed detailed ASCE 41 performance-based linear and non-linear seismic analyses and assembled a team to conduct in-situ materials testing and perform geotechnical and seismic hazard studies.
MHP reviewed several retrofit options with the owner, and ultimately designed a strengthening which utilized fluid viscous dampers within the then-vacant plaza level only, sparing the office space from costly disruptions while still achieving the client’s risk reduction goal. The strengthening was completed in 2019.
In addition to the retrofit, the project included exterior modernization of the lobby, exterior plaza and ground floor elevations including new entry canopy, landscape, fountain, signage, sculpture relocation, and replacement of portions of the ground floor glazing/wall system.
