EL CAMINO COLLEGE MATH, BUSINESS ALLIED HEALTH

TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA

The Mathematics Business Allied Health Building (MBA) project at El Camino College provides a new sustainable 4-story building that consolidates division and associated faculty offices and administrative support spaces with new classrooms and labs for the three campus departments. An interior full-height light well and a glass-floored bridge adjacent to the center stair creates a dynamic centerpiece to the project. Additional exterior cantilever stairs and full height curtain wall gives the building a lightweight feel to compliment, not overpower the adjacent structures.

Founded on conventional shallow foundations, the building construction consists of cast-in-place concrete flat slabs, columns, and shear walls. The building’s cast-in-place concrete system incorporates structural concrete elements into the design aesthetic, and reduced the need for furring and non-structural partitions to hide structural components. This project was developed and delivered using collaborative REVIT modeling with all design disciplines.
