Schroeder Hall Conversion
Long Beach, California
The project consists of a complete renovation of a 1960’s brick and CMU masonry L-shaped building with one and two-story portions, including a high roof assembly space. The structure was converted from an Army Reserve office/classroom building to the new Long Beach East Division Police Department Sub-Station.
The scope of work consisted of an initial seismic evaluation, and subsequent comprehensive seismic upgrade and tenant improvement of approximately 21,250-sf of the existing historic structure and the addition of a 2nd level gymnasium, of approximately 3,400-sf. A new elevated walkway connects the new second floor to the existing second floor. The renovation also included a new elevator tower, new openings in shear walls, and structural support for all architectural and MEP additions and modifications.
Seismic upgrades were relegated to the interior of the building to preserve the building’s historical significance.
