Target Sunnyvale consists of a raised single-level “unique” Target store over structured parking. This new facility steps well outside of the Target prototype by utilizing a precast concrete podium structure supporting a steel-framed superstructure which encloses the retail space. The design incorporates special concentrically-braced steel frames and cast-in-place concrete shear walls to resist lateral wind and seismic forces. Two-stage dynamic computer modeling was completed to properly capture the seismic behavior of the flexible superstructure supported by the stiffer podium structure.
