WAENA APARTMENTS
Honolulu, Hawaii
The 468-unit Waena Apartment development was originally constructed in 1970, and recently underwent a major renovation, including the addition of a nearly 500 kW solar photovoltaic system. The residential development includes 24 buildings in three, and six-story configurations spread over 12 acres near downtown Honolulu. The project is constructed with pre-cast concrete planks at the roof and floors, masonry bearing walls, and conventional foundations. MHP was engaged to conduct an acquisition study including a natural hazard risk assessment and a physical condition assessment. MHP’s reporting included an analysis of anticipated maintenance and capital expenditure costs the client should budget for over the next 12 years.
